La tecnología como motor de eficiencia y optimización

Date: 03/2024, Language: Spanish, Magazine: Minería Chilena, Country: Chile.

Industry suppliers explain how they have been reducing the environmental footprint in mining from this perspective.

Operations management: a pillar of the production process.

Date: 06/06/2023, Language: Spanish, Magazine: Canteras y Explotación, Country: Spain.

Introduction: In many countries around the world where mining is still taught, the journey to becoming a professional in this field generally starts from the technical aspect and progresses to the administrative side, from the "hard" to the "soft" skills. Leaving aside the basic sciences that every good engineer should easily master, the curriculum begins with courses that define the conceptual framework of the industry: mining methods, unit operations, and geology. In the core part of the academic program, each country focuses on its strengths, delving deeper into rock mechanics, resource estimation, tunneling, ventilation, materials handling, aggregates industry, mineral processing, mineral economics, etc. As we approach the end of the educational cycle, courses related to mining company management, project management, and occasionally, mining operations management are taught.

Spotlight Fleet Management System

Date: May 2023, Language: English, Magazine: International Mining, Country: UK.

The following document (in English) includes KMO-Fleet among the global trends in fleet management technology. KMO-Fleet is a company that emerged as a result of my research at the University of Exeter, Camborne School of Mines.

Habits that increase production in the mine.

Date: 03/02/2023, Language: Spanish, Magazine: Canteras y Explotación, Country: Spain.

The management of mining operations is much more than the art of organising and distributing resources optimally within a production chain. It is a discipline based on habits, which consist of actions that aim for perfection in every execution. Mining, like any sophisticated industry, should be the culmination of well-performed tasks, enabling benefits for its stakeholders and respecting the planet we inhabit.

Low-cost internet of things (IoT) for monitoring and optimising mining small-scale trucks and surface mining shovels

Date: November 2021, Language: English, Magazine: Automation in Construction, ScienceDirect.

This paper discusses the design and deployment of low-cost Internet of Things (IoT) in medium-scale open pit mines to optimise the performance of their mining small-scale trucks and surface mining shovels. Low-cost IoT can be implemented in medium-scale operations to automate the collection of process management information that is currently measured manually, replicating part of the results delivered by commercial Fleet Management Systems (FMSs) such as the calculations of the number of truck cycles per shift, the shovel loading time, truck and shovel positioning, tonnes moved per day, truck speed and average fleet efficiency. The process of developing mining benches can also be monitored.
